McFarland, Mulder are 2009 Club Champs

Carol Mulder and Kevin McFarland won Club Championships at The Crossings last weekend.  McFarland captured his third men’s club championship, the previous two coming in 2005 and 2006.  McFarland beat Noah Mann 4-and-3, Mark Jaspersen 2-and-1, and defending champion Jeff Anderson 2-and-1 on his way to the championship match.  Paul Teichert advanced to the finals with 2-and-1 wins over Paul Rongstad and Bill Gordon, and a 1-up, sudden-death win over Scott Anderson, who was the low qualifier Saturday with a 3-under-par 69.  The players were tied until the 16th hole when McFarland hit a punch shot from under a tree to within 5 feet for a birdie.  McFarland won the 17th hole with a par to end the match.
“I had butterflies all day,” said McFarland. “(Teichert) hits it so far, and that’s what I was worried about the first three holes into the wind.” 
Mulder’s Ladies’ Medal Play Championship was her ninth. She shot an 82 (39-43) to finish eight shots ahead of Barb Huntley and Kathy Gordon.  “The front (nine) is always easier for me than the back,” said Mulder.  “My drives and fairway woods were good.”  Carrie Strei was the winner of the first flight.
