Jeff Anderson wins men's match play championship
By Bruce
Olson
Jeff Anderson is old enough to
play in the seniors flight of the annual men's match play tournament at
The Crossings, but he's also still capable of more than holding his own
against the younger guys.
Anderson, a 58-year-old Montevideo optomotrist, won the men's club
championship Sunday for the first time, defeating Bill Gordon 3-and-1 in
the final nine-hole match.
"I've been a 'bridesmaid' too long," said Anderson, who has been the
runner-up in the championship flight "at least four times, maybe five or
six."
Starting the championship match on the back nine, Anderson and Gordon
halved the first two holes - the 10th with par-4s and the 11th with
bogey 4s.
Anderson grabbed the lead by reaching the 487-yard 12th hole, which was
playing into a stiff breeze, in two shots and two-putting for a birdie.
