BETTE LUNDGREN - 50 YEARS OF EXCELLENT GOLF
(So Far...)
Bette Lundgren won her first Montevideo Ladies' Club Championship in 1958,
50 years ago.
Between 1958 & 1993, she won 22 times. Besides this
phenomenal feat, she has enjoyed success
in many other events that she entered. Thanks to her scrapbook, in the following weeks, we will
highlight a few of her
wins.
Excerpts from the newspaper:
1958 - Bette Lundgren Wins Ladies' Golf Crown
Declared
ladies' champion of the Montevideo Golf club was Bette Lundgren, who won top
honors
in a field of 52 players.
Mrs. Lundgren
has come forward rapidly in golfing circles, consistently shooting unusually
long drives and showing unusual skill in other play. She has engaged in
the sport only three seasons previously. All of her 9-hole scores were in
the forties in the championship rounds, with a 42 for
the final. Leone Peterson was the runner up and consolation honors
went to Mickey Schall.
