This past June, the Montevideo School Board voted to discontinue the funding of the varsity and junior varsity golf program. Shortly after this decision, our group, the Montevideo Golf Associat= ion, was formed with the sole purpose of raising the necessary funds to continue this important program into the future.

Since the vote in June, our School Board has been under pressure to reinsta= te the program and will have the golf program on the October agenda. This vote will only change the amo= unt that our group and the golf team will need to raise each year.

If the program is put back into the budget, our group will raise money to h= elp out the players who can not afford equipment. We would also like to provide them= with team shirts and rain gear, which is not funded from the school. We would like to possibly send som= e of the kids to summer golf camps or lessons.&= nbsp; If the program is not put back into the budget, we will need to raise close to $12,000.00 each year to fund the progra= m as it is now funded.

As a group, we have met several times and are in the process of planning several fundraising events: a waffle feed, a raffle drawing, and next year a golf event. We are attempting= to build our data base with the names and addresses of all former Mohawk and <= span class=3DSpellE>Thunderhawk golfers to solicit their help in keeping = this program a part of our school athletic program.

So, with that informa= tion as background, we need your help in two different ways. First, an e-mail or make a phone c= all to school board members to ask them to put golf back into the budget and keep = any other activity from going on the cutting block. You can find their phone numbers a= nd
e-mail addresses at the schools’ web site, www.montevideoschools.com. Click on the d= istrict office icon and then on the Board of Education icon to find their numbers.<= /span> If you do not use a computer, plea= se call a member listed above and we will mail you a list.

Secondly, we could us= e your financial support to get us up and running. We have filed for our 501c non-pro= fit corporation charter with the State of Minnesota and with the IRS. Your donati= on to us is completely tax-deductable. Please forward you tax-deductable donation to us to the address list= ed above.

We thank you for your= time and consideration for our group. We have over 50 young people each year counting on us to keep this activity pa= rt of their high school years.
